AIFF Welcomes ISL Clubs’ Proposal Amid League Uncertainty
Kolkata: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has responded positively to a proposal from eight Indian Super League (ISL) clubs seeking a meeting to discuss the future of the league. The clubs aim to gain clarity on operational and revenue matters.

“Clubs are vital stakeholders contributing significantly to infrastructure and player development,” AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey told HT. “We welcome their request for a meeting and will reach out to them shortly.”
This response follows a letter from ISL clubs emphasizing the need for dialogue between the AIFF and clubs, given uncertainties about the league’s future. Notable clubs like Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal, among others, did not sign the letter sent on Tuesday.
The clubs expressed concerns over an absence of formal communication and stated that this hampers their planning capabilities. The expiry of AIFF’s commercial rights agreement in December, further complicated by a Supreme Court observation in April, has left the 2025-26 ISL without a start date. Chaubey reassured, however, that the ISL will continue.
The clubs highlighted challenges in participating in youth leagues due to uncertain revenue streams. The letter was signed by FC Goa, NorthEast United, and several other prominent clubs.
Depending on AIFF’s response, clubs are considering their next steps, including a possible intervention appeal with the Supreme Court. They may also approach the union sports minister for support.
