Alvarez’s Frightening Ankle Injury Sends Him Out of…
On Monday, September 15, 2025, Houston Astros star player, Yordan Alvarez, suffered a startling ankle injury during a game with the Texas Rangers in Houston, Texas. The alarming incident occurred in the first inning when Alvarez slipped on home plate and rolled his ankle, causing concerned fans to watch as he limped off the field with assistance from team members and trainers.
The Astros subsequently confirmed their player’s injury as a left ankle sprain. In a statement to the press, Manager Joe Espada announced plans for Alvarez to have an MRI scan the following day to fully ascertain the extent of the injury.
The unfortunate incident unfolded in the first inning at Minute Maid Park. Alvarez was on first base when teammate Carlos Correa hit a ball into the infield. Rangers’ pitcher Jack Leiter made a throwing error, allowing Alvarez the opportunity to run all the way home. However, a foot slip as Alvarez reached the home plate resulted in a severe ankle twist.
Following the injury, Alvarez was seen painstakingly moving towards the dugout in obvious discomfort. Concerned teammate Christian Walker, stationed nearby, rushed to his aid, along with trainers and Manager Espada. Together, they helped Alvarez navigate the steps into the clubhouse.
In a bid to keep spirits high, Rookie Zach Cole stepped up for Alvarez. Cole spurred the Astros with a two-run home run and later boosted the team’s score with an RBI single. This timely input led the Astros to claim a 6-3 victory over the Rangers. Despite the win, Espada confessed his concerns over Alvarez’s condition and expressed hope for positive MRI results.
Alvarez, who was not available for media interaction after the game, had only returned to play on August 26, 2025, after missing over 100 games due to a right-hand fracture. Since his comeback, he had been in excellent form, with a batting average of .369 in 18 games and numerous crucial hits to boost the Astros’ performance.
Unfortunately, Alvarez’s untimely injury adds tension as the Astros chase the playoffs. Currently, the team trails the Seattle Mariners by one game in the AL West and maintains a two-game lead over the Rangers in the Wild Card race. The Astros’ upcoming six games will be against these very same rivals.
Awaiting the MRI results, the Astros stress the importance of Alvarez’s presence in the team. “We need him. He is a big part of this team,” asserted Espada.
