Ankle Injury Sidelines Cardinals’ James Conner during 49ers Match
The Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner was transported off the field with an ankle injury during a game against the 49ers. The incident occurred in the third quarter resulting in a loss for the Cardinals.
Conner’s injury came about after he was tackled during a short run when his leg buckled underneath him. Immediately, the Cardinals’ training staff rushed onto the field. The game then took a somber turn as both teams and many Arizona players who were benched gathered around Conner while he was being treated. Following this, he was taken off the field in a cart and ruled out from the rest of the game.
At the time of the injury, Coach Jonathan Gannon offered no updates regarding the extent of Conner’s injury. However, Conner’s teammates were visibly distressed, with the Cardinals’ quarterback, Kyler Murray, expressing his concern.
“It’s unfortunate,” Murray commented. “Not only is he my teammate, I feel like that’s my brother. Seeing him go down like that, you never want to see it. You know it’s a part of the game, but it’s not ideal, all the work that he puts in, just who he is as a person. It’s tough.”
Throughout his five-season stint with Arizona, the 30-year-old Conner has exhibited consistent performances. He topped the 1,000-yard mark in each of the last two seasons. However, his performance this season had been arguably slow, with just 73 yards in the first two games and only 22 yards on nine carries during the game against the 49ers, before his unfortunate injury.
