The young defenseman of the Montreal Canadiens, Lane Hutson, is one of the 44 players competing for a spot on Team USA’s 2026 Winter Olympics roster. 21-year-old Hutson has impressed many with his performance in the NHL. However, his participation in the Olympics is still uncertain.

Bill Guerin, the GM of Team USA, acknowledged Hutson’s ability, but pointed out the stiff competition. Guerin described Hutson as a good player, but also acknowledged that “we only have room for so many players”. Though initially eliminated from the August orientation camp, Hutson was added to the initial roster afterwards. However, the final selection will be influenced by the experience and depth of the team.

Despite the tough competition, Hutson’s impressive performances have caught a lot of attention. Following a rookie season where he scored 66 points and won the Calder Trophy, Hutson has already accumulated 5 points in 7 games this season.
