Bloody-Nosed Allen Rallies Bills to Decisive 30-10 Win Over Jets
Josh Allen shook off a bloody nose that temporarily sidelined him to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 30-10 victory over the New York Jets. James Cook contributed to the victory by running for 132 yards and scoring two touchdowns. In this match, Buffalo proved too strong for the Jets, whose offense was efficiently suppressed right from the beginning.
Allen sustained a nose injury in the first quarter of the game and had to sit out for two plays. He returned to the field in the second quarter, with gauze packed into his left nostril. That didn’t deter him from scoring 148 yards on 14 of 25 attempts and running for 59 yards on six carries.
The game ended with Josh Allen being replaced by Mitchell Trubisky who completed the remaining 8:23 min. The Jets, now at 0-2 under new coach Aaron Glenn, only scored a touchdown when Tyrod Taylor tossed a 5-yard pass to Jeremy Ruckert with 3:28 left in the game.
The Bills’ solid defense was highlighted by the fact that they gave up just 100 yards to New York compared to 238 yards in a previous game against Baltimore. This was despite Buffalo missing defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
Josh Allen’s first drive culminated in James Cook running it in from one yard to put Buffalo 7-0 ahead. This was enabled by a penalty on Micheal Clemons for roughing the passer. The drive included a 40-yard run by Allen despite a defensive holding penalty called on Michael Carter II.
Buffalo’s next game is at home against the Miami Dolphins while the Jets will travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers.
