Buffalo Bills Coach Discusses WR Khalil Shakir’s Injury Timeline and Concerns
The Buffalo Bills are facing a setback, as their top wide receiver, Khalil Shakir, is temporarily out due to injury. He suffered this during the team’s training camp last Friday which is expected to affect the Bills’ depth chart.
Shakir was seen leaving the field with trainers during the team’s Blue and Red practice. The receiver expressed discomfort in his right leg thereafter, and it was later determined that he suffered a high-ankle sprain. Due to the injury, Coach Sean McDermott stated that Shakir would be out on a ‘week-to-week’ basis. CBS Sports correspondent, Matt Zenitz predicts Shakir may be absent for roughly 4-5 weeks.
The impact of Shakir’s absence is significant, as he was a leading receiver during the 2024 NFL season, with 100 targets, 76 catches, and 821 receiving yards. He’s also noted for his strong relationship with the Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen, and was expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming season.
It is anticipated that Elijah Moore or Curtis Samuel might replace Shakir in the meantime. The Bills currently have 14 receivers on the roster, five of whom were present on the 53-man roster last season.
The team is looking forward to its season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, which is scheduled for Sunday, September 7.
