Ajinkya Rahane commends Jasprit Bumrah on his decisive strategy during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.

Experienced Indian batter, Ajinkya Rahane, showers praises on Jasprit Bumrah for his strategic approach to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. The Number-1 Test bowler informed the BCCI, captain Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir about his availability for only the three Tests prior to the beginning of the five-match series. The 31-year-old played the first, third, and fourth Tests against Ben Stokes-led England.

Bumrah accumulated two five-wicket hauls at Headingley and Lord’s, totalling 14 wickets in the series. He was let go from the squad on Day 2 of the final Test at the Oval, which India won by six runs.

Rahane, who captained India to a dramatic 2-1 win against Australia Down Under in 2020-2021, recognized Bumrah for his decisive planning about his workload and series approach.

Rahane, in his YouTube channel, appreciates Bumrah’s foresight to specify his availability for the series ahead. He says, “It demonstrates courage and values the team’s needs over self, which isn’t easy for an Indian player.” He further adds that players who give mixed signals get dropped.

Bumrah prioritized team preparation

Rahane also had some suggestions for Gambhir, Gill, and Agarkar. He advised if Bumrah is needed for all Tests matches, then he should be implemented in short bursts to keep him fresh.

Rahane points out Bumrah’s thoughtful move to keep the team well-prepared. Due to Bumrah’s unique action, it exerts a heavy load on his body and should be managed wisely with smaller spells.

He adds, “England played more freely when Bumrah wasn’t playing. It’s vital to use him efficiently to extract his premium performance.”

Previously, Bumrah played all five Tests against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But, he suffered a back spasm midway through the final match in Sydney, resulting in him missing out the Champions Trophy.

Bumrah has bowled over 1,000 overs in Tests since 2020, sparking discussions about his future in the longest format due to his significant workload.
