BYU Defense Secures Dominant 27-3 Win Over Stanford.
In a college football match held on Saturday night, BYU claimed a decisive 27-3 victory over Stanford. Bear Bachmeier played a significant role in the win with 175 passing yards and a touchdown run.
Adding to the offensive front was LJ Martin, who managed to yield 110 rushing yards. This marked his second consecutive 100-yard game, with an impressive average of 6.1 yards per carry. Chase Roberts also contributed, with 84 yards across five catches. On the defensive side, the Cougars recorded three sacks, seven tackles for loss and caused three turnovers.
Despite Ben Gulbranson’s attempt at a comeback with 142 passing yards, Stanford could only muster a total offense of 161 yards. They managed 12 first downs but struggled on third down attempts, with only 2 out of 13 successful conversions.
The match was not without its exciting moments. Stanford’s first drive of the second quarter ended with BYU’s Raider Damuni intercepting and returning the ball for 26 yards. The Cougars Jack Kelly then stripped Gulbranson, allowing teammate Viliami Po’uha to reclaim the ball at Stanford’s 5-yard line.
Despite the advantageous turnovers, BYU failed to fully capitalize on these moments, settling for a pair of field goals from Will Ferrin to extend their lead to 12 points.
Another breakthrough came towards the end of the third quarter when Sione Moa scored a touchdown on an 8-yard run, pushing BYU to a 24-point lead.
The Cardinals, in contrast, struggled throughout the game with poor yardage and failed attempts to cross into BYU territory.
The match concluded with BYU’s defense outplaying Stanford’s offense, which saw the Cougars outscore their opponents 96-3 this season.
In their upcoming matches, Stanford will host Boston College while BYU will play against East Carolina on September 20th.
