Will Kraken make it five in a row?

Having seen their past four games go beyond regulation, the Kraken are keen to secure a regulation-time win on Monday as they face the Philadelphia Flyers on their road trip.

Each of the games during Seattle’s ongoing six-game road stretch has extended into overtime. They endured a 5-4 overtime loss against the Montreal Canadiens and a 4-3 shootout defeat to the Ottawa Senators before emerging with a 4-3 OT victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“It’s significant, especially heading into overtime tonight,” said Kraken defenseman Josh Mahura, who netted the decisive goal against the Maple Leafs. “We’ve found ourselves in this spot the previous two games as well, and we aimed to capitalize on the extra point tonight.”

In every game, Seattle held a lead in the third period but allowed its opponents to catch up in the last four outings.

“We’re in closely contested matches,” said Kraken head coach Lane Lambert. “That’s the reality. It’s our fourth consecutive overtime game. Thus, we anticipate being in tight matches largely and need to be comfortable playing in such scenarios.”

Vince Dunn, Jani Nyman, and Shane Wright also added goals for Seattle, while Mason Marchment and Chandler Stephenson contributed two assists each.

“I think we’re playing with determination,” remarked Mahura. “We strive to solidify an identity of being a challenging team to compete against nightly. With just five games in, we like our direction.”

Conversely, Philadelphia experienced overtime in its recent game. Noah Cates secured the Flyers’ 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday with his inaugural career overtime goal.

“I had that shot a few times,” Cates recalled. “It hit the goalie’s stick once, and the lower blocker another time. So, I persisted, and was thrilled when I finally scored in overtime.”

Owen Tippett netted the other goal for the Flyers and achieved a season-high five shots.

“He injects energy into the team,” stated Flyers coach Rick Tocchet about Tippett. “He’s been our most dynamic and driving force … It seems like when he shifts positions, he uplifts whoever he’s paired with.”

Dan Vladar, rotating as goaltender with Samuel Ersson, made 15 saves to claim victory.

“The enthusiasm he brings daily to the locker room … I’ve rarely seen a goalie with such energy,” praised Cates regarding Vladar. “He elevates us. It’s uncommon in a goalie.”

Philadelphia aims to see improved offensive output from Travis Konecny, who is yet to score this season, and Matvei Michkov, with one goal and no assists in five games.

Seattle has won five out of the last six encounters between the teams. The Kraken tallied a total of ten goals across their two victories against the Flyers last season.
