Carmelo Anthony’s Hall of Fame Candidacy: Billy Donovan’s Misuse at OKC Fuelling the Debate | NBA News
Basketball player Paul George recently claimed that coach Billy Donovan had no plans for Hall of Fame player Carmelo Anthony in the Oklahoma City Thunder. George alleged in an interview that Donovan failed to incorporate Anthony into the team’s plans. Despite this, George noted that he and Anthony respect Donovan a lot.
Long before they won their first NBA championship, the Oklahoma City Thunder, already had significant talent. However, they had to part with George to acquire Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. George reflected on this time and discussed his unsuccessful chemistry with Anthony and Russell Westbrook.
“Melo sacrificed. Melo wasn’t the issue. Billy had a plan for Russ and I, then right at the last minute, we got Carmelo. So now Billy’s like, ‘I don’t know how to incorporate him. Y’all were my two guys, Melo’s just gonna have to find his way,'” George revealed.
After just one season, Anthony signed with the Houston Rockets in free agency. Meanwhile, George once defended Donovan from media criticism in 2014. He stated that Donovan still enjoyed great respect from the players. To date, Billy Donovan has not responded to these allegations.
