Carter Hart Allegedly Set to Abandon Flyers Amid Ongoing Controversy: NHL Update

Former Philadelphia Flyers goalkeeper, Carter Hart, is set to return to the National Hockey League (NHL), but it is unlikely that he will return to Philadelphia. NHL insider, Chris Johnston of The Athletic, has stated that Hart, aged 27, is likely to finalize a deal with a new NHL team by October 1, with his contract able to be officially registered starting from October 15.

Hart is seeking a fresh start and significant playing time. His aim is to move to a team where he can play more meaningful games and be part of a winning side. With the Flyers currently possessing goalies such as Sam Ersson, Dan Vladar, Aleksei Kolosov, and Ivan Fedotov, all of whom have NHL experience in their roster, the chances of Hart getting the opportunity he desires are slim.

Given that the Flyers are not in contention and have no space for more goalkeepers, Hart is expected to sign a deal for two or three years, potentially allowing for an extension as soon as the summer of 2026, if both parties are in agreement. Hart would prefer to sign with a US-based team, thereby reducing his potential options. Rumors of a move to Edmonton has supposedly been ruled out.

In his last NHL game on January 20, Hart had a hard time in a 7-4 loss against Colorado. Since then, he hasn’t participated in any competitive matches. The terms of his re-entry permit him a one-month window from October 15 to November 15 to train with his new team before becoming eligible for an American Hockey League conditioning stint. The coming weeks will reveal where this gifted yet beset goalie will end up, marking a significant fresh start in his professional journey.
