Chris Boswell Ends Contract Dispute with Steelers, Featured in Buccaneers Preseason Match | NFL News | Times of India
The experienced Pittsburgh Steelers’ kicker, Chris Boswell, has concluded his hold-in, marking his return during the preseason match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This decision followed weeks of uncertainty around his contract status. Despite kicking 41 successful field goals in 2024, the most prominent in the NFL, Boswell is entering the 11th season with the Steelers on a contract that places him outside the top ten highest paid in his position. Even so, his contract is valid until 2026.
Chris Boswell started the preseason game and was present following a touchdown by his teammate Brandon Johnson against the Buccaneers. His appearance demonstrated readiness for the upcoming season, notwithstanding his lack of attempts at a field goal in the match.
The method adopted by Boswell, which involves being present at team events but abstains from participating in games or practice, was an obvious appeal for a contract adjustment. Back in 2024, he scored 41 out of 44 field goals and all 35 extra points, which warranted his second Pro Bowl entry and first-team All-Pro recognition.
In the Steelers team, another veteran player Chris Boswell is undergoing contract negotiation. With 15 seasons under his belt, defensive lineman Cam Heyward also conducted a hold-in during the training camp. Despite an All-Pro designation last year and a three-year extension signed in 2024 equating to a $45 million deal, Heyward still feels undervalued. If his contract negotiation is not settled, he has expressed willingness to miss regular season matches.
Both Boswell and Heyward’s situations illustrate the challenges experienced players meet when their extraordinary performance outweighs their pay. As the regular season approaches, the Steelers will need to handle these contract complications and ensure their main players are secured.
