Cleveland Charge Acquires Killian Hayes’ Rights from Nets’ G League Affiliate in Exchange for 2026 Draft Picks
The Brooklyn Nets’ G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, have recently completed a trade with the Cleveland Charge, the developmental team for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets have traded away the returning player rights of Killian Hayes, a 24-year-old French guard, for a first-round and a second-round selection in the 2026 NBA G League Draft.
Hayes was drafted seventh overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2020 and had a mixed NBA career before transitioning to the G League for much of the 2024-25 season. He managed to make a mark during that time, averaging 17.3 points, 7.4 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game. Following the trade, Hayes has signed a training camp deal with the Cavaliers.
However, Hayes will need to prove that he can overcome past inefficiency issues, particularly when it comes to consistency in NBA shooting. Meanwhile, for the Long Island Nets, this trade offers long-term value in the form of draft assets, giving them more flexibility in future team building.
The Cleveland Charge and Cavaliers will gain a player who is more likely to immediately impact their team than an untested draft pick. However, they will need to bank on a player with a track record of inefficiency at the NBA level.
This mutually beneficial trade sheds light on an evolving trend of G League draft picks and returning player rights in shaping the future of both NBA organizations and their affiliates.
