Coleman Shines with Record 5 TDs as Washington Bulldozes UC Davis
In a smashing triumph, Jonah Coleman ran for a personal record five rushing touchdowns helping Washington to a decisive 70-10 win over UC Davis on Saturday night.
Coleman matched Corey Dillon and Hugh McElhenny’s modern program record with a 5-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter. The school’s all-time record still stands at seven rushing touchdowns by Ervin Daily against Whitman in 1919.
In awe of his accomplishment, Coleman shared, “It hasn’t really hit me yet, but I just want to shout out my o-line. I appreciate them boys, and they make me look good.”
In his stellar career, Coleman has previously scored three touchdowns in a game twice. But he exceeded that record even before halftime in this match. He ended the night with his seventh career 100-yard rushing game at Washington, carrying 15 runs for 111 yards.
Praising Coleman, Head coach Jedd Fisch said, “I mean, he had 15 carries and five of them were touchdowns. So, pretty good performance.”
The Huskies amassed 324 rushing yards on 46 carries in total.
“We’re supposed to do that,” remarked Coleman, “We’re a Big Ten team, we run the ball and that was the goal all offseason was to get bigger, stronger and be tougher.”
Aggies’ scores included a 1-yard pass from Caden Pinnick caught by running back Matteo Perez and a 45-yard field goal made by Hunter Ridley in the first quarter.
In the match, Washington wide receiver Rashid Williams suffered an injury in the first half and was seen with his left arm in a sling. He is anticipated to be out for a few weeks.
Denzel Boston, the team’s leading wide receiver, scored his first career punt return bringing in a 78-yard touchdown. Boston confessed, “I ain’t even done that in high school. That was my first time ever.”
Freshman receiver Raiden Vines-Bright had his first career collegiate catch and his second went for a game-high 45 yards. For UC Davis, Rex Connors made history by becoming the program’s all-time leader in career tackles with his eighth tackle of the game.
Moving forward, UC Davis will host Southern Utah on Sept. 20 while Washington will travel to Washington State on the same day.
