Comprehensive Guide to Discovering and Capturing Rare…

Are you playing Pokémon Legends Z-A and already dreaming about accumulating a team of rare, powerful monsters even before you’ve earned your first gym badge? You’re not alone. This game hides some of its most legendary Pokémon in tricky-to-find corners. But don’t fret, we’ve got some tips to help you catch these elusive creatures early, saving you valuable time and Pokéballs.

Here are the locations and best times to find four of the most sought-after Pokémon:

  1. Dratini & Dragonair

One of the first rare catches you can get early in the game, visit Restaurant Léna (yes, the fancy one). Scale the ladder on the side of the building, and you might spot a Dratini or Dragonair relaxing on the rooftop. The trick is to visit during the daytime for Dratini and nighttime for Dragonair. If they’re not present, fast travel back and forth between the restaurant to reset spawns. It took us 6–7 respawns to get an alpha Dragonair. Use Quick Balls for your first try and remember to always sneak behind it for a bonus catch chance.

  1. Larvitar

This hardy rock-dinosaur Pokémon can be nabbed quite early provided you have decent timing. Fast travel to Wild Zone 2 and then head towards Vert Sector 2. You will need to successfully make a daring rooftop jump to find Larvitar nesting near the north corner of the area. Larvitar sometimes appears as a regular spawn, sometimes as an alpha. If you’re looking for an Alpha Tyranitar, simply respawn it by leaving and re-entering the zone.

  1. Eevee

If you have a soft spot for Eevee and are aiming for a full Eeveelution lineup, rejoice as Z-A lets you catch more than one early on. The adorable fox-like creature can be found at Cafe Class A, where you head right, turn down the alley, and smash the stones blocking a door. There, an Eevee will appear if it’s not raining. If it does rain, another rare Pokémon takes Eevee’s spot. So, change the weather or wait it out. There’s also another Eevee spawning near Nava Coffee Truck, next to a tower rooftop. Use Repeat Balls as Eevee is known to flee easily due to their low level.

  1. Riolu

Want a Lucario early in the game? Catch Riolu during the daytime near the Looker Bureau. From the Bureau, run left towards the large shopping complex, find and climb the ladder and — voilà! — a Riolu will be there on the rooftop. If it’s not there, fast travel away and come back. The luckiest might even find an Alpha Riolu!

Don’t forget these other bonus rare spawns:

  • Gible – Check the Rogue Sector caves at dusk.
  • Rotum – Appears near electric billboards in Lumiose Plaza after midnight. Remember to bring Ultra Balls!
  • Ralts – Morning spawn near Garden District, right before the fog sets in.

To catch rare Pokémon faster, follow these tips:

  • Respawn Trick: Fast travel away then back to reset the area.
  • Quick Balls First: Higher catch rate on the first turn, especially for Alpha spawns.
  • Sneak + Back Throw: Crouch, wait till the Pokémon turns around, and throw the Pokéball for a “surprise catch” bonus.
  • Time of Day Matters: Some Pokémon swap spawns completely depending on the hour.

In conclusion, exploring is the main ingredient for success in Pokémon Legends Z-A. Don’t get discouraged if your first alpha does not show up immediately. Half the fun is exploring unusual rooftops and testing your luck on respawns. Keep the grind going and before you know it, you will catch the rare Pokémon you have been looking for.
