Controversy surrounds LoL Pro Bwipo’s Sexist Remarks trending…
League of Legends professional player, Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau has stirred up a controversy due to his remarks about women participating in competitive gaming. Clips from his recent Twitch stream on September 9, 2025 have gone viral on various platforms such as Reddit, X, and TikTok. The commentary from the Belgian-Brazilian player has been perceived as sexist by many.
In his broadcast from September 2, Bwipo discussed his experiences in competitive gaming. He suggested that women have fluctuations in their gameplay performance depending on their menstrual cycle. “There is a time in the month where you should not be playing competitive games as a woman, in my opinion,” he said. He further opined that mood changes and irritation were evident during such times based on his past encountered experiences.
Denying the sexist undertones in his statements, he argued that he was only offering “realistic solutions.” He even proposed women could use a secondary account during their menstrual cycles. The attempt at framing his suggestion as constructive only resulted in wider criticism.
The gaming and streaming community reacted strongly to these comments. Fans argue that his views trivialize the struggles women face in professional gaming. Remarks such as, “And this right here is why education is important, kids,” and “Yikes, this dude’s takes are wilder than a hurricane. Oof,” were shared by frustrated fans. Memes and sarcastic responses, mocking his disclaimer of not being sexist followed by allegedly sexist comments, were also extensively shared.
Bwipo’s team, FlyQuest, responded by suspending him for the next LTA playoffs series. His prize money from the event will be donated to initiatives supporting women in esports. The team said in a statement, “Comments that might discourage even one young woman from pursuing her dream of becoming a pro player harm the future of esports.” They labeled Bwipo’s comments as contrary to the organization’s objective of promoting inclusivity in gaming.
Now, Bwipo has yet to publicly address the backlash. There is anticipation around how he will handle the mounting criticism, his current suspension, and whether this episode will impact his professional career and reputation.
