Corey Perry Set to Debut as LA Kings Place Captain Kopitar on Injured List

The sports team of Los Angeles Kings has activated forward player Corey Perry from the injured reserve. This move paves way for Perry’s debut and marks the beginning of his 21st NHL season. On the flip side, Kings’ captain Anze Kopitar has been placed on the injured reserve as his 20th NHL season met with a sudden interruption last week due to a foot injury.

Perry, aged 40, was signed up by the Kings as a free agent in the last summer and had been out of action due to a knee injury, which he suffered prior to the commencement of the training camp in September. Taking lesser than the initial prognosis of 6-8 weeks’ recovery time, Perry made a resilient comeback post his surgery.

Throughout his illustrious career, Perry represented Kings’ archrivals Anaheim Ducks for his first 14 seasons. He also made transfers to Dallas, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Edmonton. Perry has a record of reaching the Stanley Cup Final in five of the past six seasons, although he couldn’t lead his team to victory in any of these finals. With a tally of 448 goals and 487 assists, Perry’s contributions to the NHL have been impressive.

Kopitar’s injury is reported to be a result of a deflected puck hitting his foot during a match against Minnesota earlier this month. The Slovenian forward has announced his retirement at the conclusion of this season.

The Kings are in for some challenging times with a 1-3-2 record and a four-game losing streak. Their next stop is a face-off with the St. Louis Blues and it marks the beginning of a five-game road trip.
