Delving into the Personal Life of Late NBA Star Deng Mayar

Young basketball forward, Deng Mayar, recently passed away in a tragic drowning accident over the weekend, leaving University of Nebraska-Omaha and the sports community in deep sadness. The unfortunate accident took place in a reservoir in Utah, around 35 yards from the shore.

At the time of the accident, the unmarried basketball star was swimming with a friend at the Blackridge Reservoir. Mayar’s friend, Sa Mafutaga, managed to reach land before desperately trying to save him, but sadly, his attempts were unsuccessful. Authorities conducted a thorough search for hours in the reservoir before they found Mayar’s body.

Following his untimely death, his family created a Go Fund Me page to carry out his final rites. Mayar leaves behind six siblings, Angelina, Achol, Christina, Ngor, Achan, and Nyanbol, and his parents, Alei and Abele. The page description pays tribute to Deng’s outstanding character as a son, brother, friend, classmate, and teammate.

As his family continues to grieve his untimely passing, they ask for the public’s support to help lay Deng to rest with the same warmth and care he always gave to others. His family’s Go Fund Me page, at the time of this writing, has collected $33,374 of the $50,000 intended goal.

Deng Mayar began his collegiate basketball career as a long-time starter for Howard Junior College. He eventually transferred to the University of Nebraska Omaha, after playing for North Dakota in the Summit League for two seasons. He played 15 games over two seasons, averaging 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Aside from his sports career, Mayar was also dedicated to his studies, in which he pursued communications. Former teammates and coaches flooded the athlete with tributes following his passing, noting his excellent on-court progress and large-heartedness.
