The Detroit Red Wings has confirmed that they will officially retire the jersey No. 91, famously worn by Hall of Famer Sergei Fedorov. The announcement will be part of a special pre-game ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2026. This will take place ahead of their home match against the Carolina Hurricanes at Little Caesars Arena.

Fedorov is highly celebrated in the league, having enjoyed an 18 year long career in the NHL. During this time, he amassed 1,179 points, a plus-261 rating, and served 839 penalty minutes in 1,248 regular-season games. He played for the Red Wings, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Washington Capitals. Detroit officially announced Fedorov’s retirement on August 19, 2025.

In a statement, the Detroit Red Wings shared their honour to celebrate Sergei Fedorov and expressed excitement to raise his #91 jersey to its rightful place hanging in the rafters at Little Caesars Arena, among other all-time greats. They acknowledged his exceptional skill, drive and his significant impact by playing a pivotal role in securing three Stanley Cup championships for Detroit.

He expressed his gratitude towards the Red Wings organization and shared his pride for the three Stanley Cup championships that they won for their fans in Hockeytown. He also mentioned cherishing the moment yesterday when Chris Ilitch called to share the news about retiring his jersey number.

It is important to note that Sergei Fedorov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015, his first year of eligibility. He was also honored as one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players during the league’s Centennial celebration in 2017. Fedorov is also a part of the IIHF Hall of Fame since 2016, and his No. 91 is the Red Wings’ ninth retired number in franchise history.
