The NBA legend Dwyane Wade has revealed why his first marriage ended. Before meeting his current wife, popular Hollywood actress Gabrielle Union, Wade was married to his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last long as Wade was accused of brutal domestic violence by Funches. Wade has since opened up about these accusations in the 2020 ESPN documentary ‘D. Wade: Life Unexpected’.

Wade explained his first marriage to Funches faced many difficulties, particularly because they started dating at a young age. “We got together at 16 years old so we had a lot of differences and we didn’t know how to handle those,” Wade expressed in the documentary. He also admitted their co-parenting relationship after separation was far from being smooth, with police often being involved to help him see his children.

Wade and Funches ended their marriage in 2008. A year later, Wade started dating his current wife, Gabrielle Union. Despite taking a short break in 2013 during which Wade fathered a child with another woman, the couple eventually found their way back to each other. By 2014, they were married and continue to be one of the most beloved couples in the NBA.
