Dynasty Decline: Colin Cowherd Predicts Dismal 2025 for Mahomes, Kelce and Chiefs | NFL News Times of India
Sports commentator Colin Cowherd has sparked controversy by declaring that the Kansas City Chiefs’ time as a dominant force in the NFL may be over. Despite having Super Bowl aspirations this year, the team was previously humbled in a Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
Cowherd argues that the Chiefs’ dominance is under threat not because their performance has deteriorated, but because their rivals are getting stronger. He likens their situation to that of Nick Saban’s years of dominance with Alabama, which were undermined when rivals improved.
According to Cowherd, the AFC West, once a playground for the Chiefs, is not so anymore. Kansas City once thrived on coaching inconsistencies and franchise rebuilding among their division, but things are changing fast. The Denver Broncos under Sean Payton and rookie QB Bo Nix are promisingly revitalized. At the same time, the Chargers are now more competent under Jim Harbaugh’s leadership, and the traditionally chaotic Raiders seem to be stabilizing under Pete Carroll.
However, the Chiefs are facing their own uncertainties as key players like Travis Kelce mature. Kelce, at the age of 35, is showing signs of slowing down. There are also concerns about the future of coach Andy Reid. Ongoing uncertainties may mean that easy division titles or playoff byes may be things of the past, with more serious competition facing them in the future.
With their first major test coming in Week 1 against Harbaugh’s Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, and a Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles in Week 2, only time will tell if the Chiefs can prove Cowherd wrong and reclaim their dominant status in the NFL.
