Ex-Panthers Star Advocates for Spot alongside Crosby and McDavid in Canada’s 4 Nations Team – NHL News | Times of India
Former Panthers’ star, Brandon Montour, after missing out on the 4 Nations roster selection, has openly sought the opportunity to join outstanding players like Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid in the Team Canada lineup for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano. Montour, who had celebrated a major milestone in his NHL career by lifting the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024, is keen on wearing the Maple Leaf on the world’s largest stage.
Although the NHL season has yet to begin, excitement about Olympic hockey is already high. For Canadian players, the Olympics carry unmatched prestige. With such a talented roster at all positions, only the best get their names on the team sheet. However, Montour is eager to make his mark and join the Canadian elite on the ice.
Interestingly, Canada has already announced its first six names which include players like Crosby, McDavid, Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, Sam Reinhart, and Brayden Point. Although the lineup leaves little room for others to join, Montour believes his chance lies in showing his abilities on the ice.
Despite not making it to the 4 Nations team, Montour showcased his consistency at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, with nine points. His performance earned him an invitation to Team Canada’s Olympic orientation camp in Calgary, held last August.
Looking forward, Montour, 31 years old, understands these opportunities are rare. Competition for the blueline position will be stiff, but his resilience and growth in recent times are encouraging signs that he is ready to fight for his spot and potentially skate alongside Crosby and McDavid. His journey from disappointment to a new opportunity is a testament to his determination and may ultimately see the Panthers’ Cup champion represent Canada at the Olympics in Milano.
