Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has tragically passed away at the age of 46. According to a Press Association report, Hatton’s lifeless body was found at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Police confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. They were alerted by a public individual and found the 46-year-old’s body at his residence on Bowlacre Road around 6.45 am local time.

Known as “The Hitman” in the boxing world, Hatton had a successful career and a vast fan following in Britain. He held world titles in both the light-welterweight and welterweight categories. Over the years, he took on several globally recognized boxers including Floyd Mayweather, Kostya Tszyu, and Manny Pacquiao.

Post-retirement in 2012, Hatton was open about his mental health struggles and alcohol addiction. Despite retiring over a decade ago, he continued to participate in exhibition matches. As recently as July, Hatton had revealed plans for a professional comeback against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai this December.

In the wake of his sudden death, tributes are pouring in from both within and outside the boxing fraternity. Hatton’s frankness about his mental health has positioned him as a notable figure outside the boxing realm as well.
