Glorious Night at 2025 World Boxing Championships: Lamboria…
India had a historic night at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool. Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria won gold in the women’s 57kg category. She defeated Olympic silver medalist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in a gripping final. This achievement marks a milestone in the history of Indian boxing.
In addition to Jaismine’s victory, another Indian boxer, Nupur, clinched silver in the women’s +80kg division. This performance capped off one of India’s strongest campaigns on the global boxing stage.
The final between Jaismine and Szeremeta was intense. Initially, Szeremeta took the lead backed by a contingent of Polish supporters. However, Jaismine brilliantly regained control in the second round using her superior reach and counterpunching skills. She maintained this control for the remainder of the match, ultimately securing a 4-1 split decision victory and bagging India’s first gold medal of the tournament.
Jaismine’s victory was not an easy one. After an early exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics, she focused on improving her technique and mental strength. Her efforts were rewarded with the gold medal.
While Indian fans celebrated Jaismine’s triumph, Nupur added to India’s medal tally with a silver. In the final, she faced off against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska. Kaczmarska neutralized Nupur’s height advantage by fighting at close quarters, eventually landing a decisive punch to win by a 3-2 split decision.
Earlier in the day, Pooja Rani had also contributed to India’s medal tally by securing a bronze. This achievement was the result of a tough semi-final contest against England’s Emily Asquith.
All in all, this was a historic event for Indian boxing. It was the first time three Indian women boxers – Minakshi (48kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Nupur (80kg) – made it to the finals of the global tournament.
