Hooda and Lamboria Secure Gold at World Boxing Championships”
Indian boxers Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Minakshi Hooda (48kg) have made history by clinching gold titles at the World Championships. Jaismine dominated all her rivals, including Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland. The victory was declared late Saturday night, with Jaismine prevailing 4-1 on the judges’ scorecards (30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28).
On the other hand, Minakshi Hooda out-punched Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan, a bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics, to secure her title in the 48kg category on Sunday. However, Nupur Sheoran (80 kg) and Pooja Rani (80kg) settled for silver and bronze medals, respectively, in non-Olympic weight categories.
With these wins, Jaismine and Minakshi have now joined the list of Indian world champions alongside six-time winner Mary Kom, two-time winner Nikhat Zareen, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, Lekha KC, Nitu Ghanghas, Lovlina Borgohain, and Saweety Boora.
Jaismine showed impressive efforts during her third World Championships. She bounced back after losing the initial round to Szeremeta and dominated in the second round with her defensive strategies. Meanwhile, Nupur finished second after a close 2-3 defeat against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, and Pooja ended up with a bronze medal after losing to local favourite Emily Asquith.
