‘Indian GM Seeks FIDE Intervention Following Kramnik’s Actions in Naroditsky’s Death’

Indian Grandmaster Nihal Sarin has accused former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik of contributing to the death of American Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky. Naroditsky, who died suddenly at the age of 29, had been subject to repeated and public cheating accusations by Kramnik.

These accusations had caused great stress to Naroditsky, who consistently denied the allegations. Kramnik had also suggested without evidence that Naroditsky struggled with drug use and mental health issues. Following Naroditsky’s death, Kramnik sparked controversy by posting cryptic messages on his social media account referring to Naroditsky’s alleged drug use.

Sarin accused Kramnik of causing real-life harm with his false accusations and called on the global chess governing body, FIDE, to take action against him for his sustained “online bullying”. Sarin also highlighted Kramnik’s similar accusations against other top-level players, notably Czech GM David Navara, who admitted that the allegations had adversely affected his mental health.

Naroditsky was a deeply respected member of the chess community, known for his passion for the game. He trained and taught at the Charlotte Chess Center, which acknowledged him as a significant source of joy and inspiration. As the chess world mourns Naroditsky’s death, there is a growing demand for accountability at the highest level, with many echoing Sarin’s call for action.
