Joe Burrow’s Injury May Pave Way for Jake Browning as Bengals’ QB: A Worrisome Twist for Supporters

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered an injury that appears to be more serious than initially thought. He left their Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his return is questionable following an update from the team. NFL representatives and reporters noted the 28-year-old limping towards the locker room, unable to walk on his own.

Jake Browning replaced Burrow during the game, with Cincinnati trailing 10-17 at halftime.

Burrow got injured with 8:36 left in the second quarter after a tackle. He was seen pointing towards his left foot, visibly in tears. The medical team quickly attended to Burrow, taking him to the medical tent before moving him to the locker room.

Up to the point of his injury, Burrow had achieved 7-of-13 passing for 76 yards and a first-quarter touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase. Previously, Burrow had completed 68.6 percent of his passes for over 19,000 yards and 141 touchdowns to 46 interceptions. He was awarded the Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year in 2021 and also in the last season when he led the Bengals to the Super Bowl.

With Burrow out, Browning took over the Bengals’ offense. Before Sunday, the 29-year-old had appeared in 12 games, including seven starts in 2023. He had a record of 4 wins and 3 losses in these games with a 70.4 completion percentage, 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Browning, originally not drafted, was from Washington.
