Why Did Jon Jones Retire?

Jones’ retirement is attributed to several factors. Primarily, he has found contentment outside the octagon, dedicating time to family, home-building, and new ventures like co-owning the Dirty Boxing Championship. His active social media presence, showcasing moments in Thailand while filming a reality show, highlights “living my best life.”

Additionally, Jones hinted at a diminishing competitive drive, stating, “When the itch comes back—if it comes back—I’ll do it with my whole heart.”

Financial security also played a role; Jones mentioned his wealth by saying, “This attitude is making me a very wealthy man.”

Curtis Blaydes Criticizes Jon Jones

UFC Heavyweight Curtis Blaydes, who is set to fight Rizvan Kuniev next, argued that the promotion should strip Jones of his titles due to inactivity. Jones won the heavyweight belt in March 2023 after defeating Cyril Gane and last fought Stipe Miocic in November 2024 before becoming inactive.

“Yeah, it’s been long enough. I think everyone’s in agreement. You have to be active and being stripped. It doesn’t mean like you’re not skilled or nothing. It just means you’re not active, which he would have to admit if he’s being honest, he hasn’t been active,” Blaydes commented in an interview.
