Judge Penalizes Teyana Taylor with $70K Fine in Iman Shumpert Divorce Lawsuit: NBA News | Times of India

The ongoing divorce saga between free agent Iman Shumpert and his ex-wife Teyana Taylor took a dramatic turn this week as a court fined the singer $70,000 for violating her divorce decree from 2024. Us Weekly reports that Taylor was held in contempt of court and was ordered to pay the hefty fine to her ex-husband. She was also asked to bear Shumpert’s legal fees. The judge, furthermore, denied her a request for Shumpert to pay her legal costs.

The legal spat is on-going between Shumpert and Taylor. Despite agreeing not to disclose any details about the divorce settlement, Taylor allegedly spoke about it in an online video in March. This video later spread on social media. In the video, she is said to have accused her ex-husband of paying people to publicise the divorce details.

According to Vibe magazine, Taylor stated in the video that she had evidence that the NBA player had allegedly leaked confidential details of their divorce to media. However, the court recently ruled that Taylor failed to provide any proof to back up her claims in the video.

The court document reads, “The court finds [Taylor] in violation of the Final Judgment and Decree of Divorce and is in willful contempt. It seems Taylor and her counsel failed to perform even a minimum amount of diligence to determine whether her claim of contempt had any factual support before petition filing.” The document further states that Taylor declined to respond to Shumpert’s inquiries about her income and assets, claiming such information to be irrelevant.

For context, Taylor filed for a discreet divorce from Shumpert in 2023, citing an “irretrievably broken bond” as the reason. She also accused the ex-Brooklyn Nets player of leaking divorce details to the media. However, the court concluded that Taylor’s allegations lacked enough evidence. As of now, neither Taylor nor her representatives have commented on the situation.
