The Toronto Blue Jays’ star player, Shane Bieber, didn’t exactly make the best fashion statement on his first date with his now wife, Kara Bieber, showing up in jeans and sandals. Years later, the couple can laugh about the awkward beginning to their love story.

Shane Bieber, now a two-time MLB All-Star, first met Kara Bieber during alumni weekend at UC Santa Barbara. Kara remembered their first encounter clearly, stating in an interview with Paradise Valley City Lifestyle, “It was alumni weekend, and Shane was back in town. We were introduced by mutual friends and instantly hit it off. He showed up in jeans and sandals, leading me to think, ‘This guy needs a wardrobe update.'”

However, beneath the casual attire, Kara saw a genuine and grounded man which persuaded her to stay with Shane through his successful career in baseball, starting with the Cleveland Guardians. They eventually tied the knot in January 2023 at Hevadu Vineyard Estate in Malibu and celebrated their fifth anniversary later that same year. The couple also welcomed their first child, a son named Kav McClain, in March 2023 and Shane was later traded to the Blue Jays.

Kara Bieber, originally from Northern California and a former college athlete, has since become a thriving entrepreneur, founding clothing line, Kinlike, and wellness brand TELT Skincare. She’s also shared her journey into motherhood online, expressing her love for her son Kav McClain on Instagram.
