Kirill Kaprizov likely to extend his stay with Minnesota Wild amid NHL contract discussions | Times of India NHL News

Kirill Kaprizov, a star forward for the Minnesota Wild, is reportedly in negotiation talks for a new contract. This information was shared by hockey reporter Michael Russo on the DFO Rundown Podcast on August 15, 2025. He revealed that while the Wild and Kaprizov are not far apart in terms of financials, there have been some miscommunications during this offseason. Minnesota Wild’s general manager, Bill Guerin, is reportedly waiting for Kaprizov to return to Minnesota for a face-to-face discussion.

Michael Russo, a correspondent for The Athletic who covers the Minnesota Wild, stated that the team and Kirill Kaprizov are financially close to agreeing on a contract. He acknowledged that there have been a few miscommunications over the summer. Cyril Kaprizov, originating from Novokuznetsk, Russia, has been a key player for the Wild since he joined the NHL in 2020 as their leading scorer with 46 goals last season.

According to Russo, Guerin is eager to finalize a long-term contract with Kaprizov when he returns from his offseason in Russia. Back in June 2025, during the NHL Draft in Las Vegas, Guerin referred to Kaprizov as the most important piece for the team’s future. The team and their fans await Kaprizov’s return to Minnesota in anticipation that the deal can be completed before the start of training camp in September 2025.

Guerin plans to continue the contract discussion face-to-face rather than over phone or email, stating that there is still some stuff to sort out, but the two parties are close in terms of financials. The mutual aim is to have the new contract ready before the start of the next training camp.
