Lack of Adequate Training and Coaching: Lovlina Cites Reasons for Early World C’ships Exit
Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain expressed her frustration over lack of adequate training after exiting early from the World Boxing Championships. She claimed she does not always receive the level of training she really needs. Lovlina Borgohain recently returned to international competition after a year’s hiatus, but lost to Turkey’s Busra Isildar in a 0-5 defeat in the first round.
She expressed her ongoing struggles and stated, “I never demand luxury, I only ask for good training.” The athlete further lamented about her lack of exposure in the resources leading up to the Paris Olympics, contrasting with her previous experiences before the Tokyo Olympics. She emphasized the lack of good sparring partners for her to improve, a situation that was exacerbated by the Boxing Federation of India’s absence from major international tournaments.
Additionally, due to the Assam state unit’s infighting, Borgohain was left out and had to depend on a domestic meet to rejoin the national camp. Despite her challenges, she clarified that she wasn’t blaming her current coaches and team members, stating that they have always been supportive and helpful.
However, she was denied her requests for personal coach at the national camp and for training opportunities in Europe. Remaining defiant, Borgohain vowed to “rise again” and “fight in any situation”.
