Lovlina Borgohain’s Assertive Comment Following World Championships Exit: ‘Not Luxury, Just Fairness…’
Lovlina Borgohain, a boxer from India, was eliminated from the Boxing World Championships on Saturday, losing her opening bout against Busra Isildar from Turkey. The defeat ended Borgohain’s hope of progressing in the tournament. After the defeat, the 27-year-old expressed her frustration on social media, stating she doesn’t often receive the training she needs.
The World Championships marked Borgohain’s return to international competition after a year-long break. She seemed out of step during the 75kg bout. Writing on social media, she clarified that she never demands luxury but only seeks decent training.
She regretted the lack of adequate preparation and exposure before the Paris Olympics compared to the preparation time she had before the Tokyo Games. She pointed out that learning new things always takes time, and good sparring partners are crucial to improving.
Lovlina emphasized that she is not blaming her current coaches or team members, who she said have always supported and tried to help her. However, she does feel let down by the lack of access to the training and coaching resources she needs. Borgohain went on to announce her commitment to fight back, no matter the circumstances.
Earlier this year, Borgohain faced controversy after requesting that her personal coach be allowed to the national camp, but her request was denied. This came after the Assam state unit, of which she is a member, did not field a team at the delayed nationals reportedly due to internal disputes in the federation.
