Matt Judon Nears Deal with Miami Dolphins, Drops Free Agent Status | NFL News Times of India
NFL free agent, Matt Judon, is almost certain to sign with the Miami Dolphins after an underwhelming season with the Atlanta Falcons. He is to visit the Dolphins camp soon, according to NFL insider, Jordan Schultz.
The Dolphins are reportedly unsatisfied with their current defensive lineup and are therefore keen to add a veteran linebacker to their team. Even though they already have a formidable defense team, they seem eager to increase their arsenal.
Judon, 33, was not at his best game in the past few years due to a severe lower biceps injury he incurred during week 4 of the 2023 season. After receiving medical treatment, he couldn’t maintain his previous standard. During the first two weeks of 2024, he scored 1.5 sacks, 12 tackles, two quarterback hits, and two tackles. His all-time low happened in week 15 when he only played 42% of the defensive snaps.
This downward trend led the Falcons to continue without offering him a new contract. However, the year 2025 promises to be a game-changer for Judon. The Miami Dolphins have seen his potential and might make a move soon to secure his prowess on their team.
Schultz reported that “The Dolphins will host 4x Pro Bowl OLB Matthew Judon on a visit tomorrow. Miami has been exploring pass-rush options, and Judon — who had 5.5 sacks last season in Atlanta — brings 72 career sacks to the table.” He also added that “both parties are motivated to reach a deal.”
Although Judon’s recent performance doesn’t promise an impressive record, his past tenure with the Patriots has certainly caught attention. He achieved two Pro Bowl nods and also finished ninth in the NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022.
As the former Patriots’ linebacker tries to revive his career, he posted clips from his time with the Patriots on Instagram. The captions hint at his yearning to wear the Patriots’ red sleeves again. Even though it would surely excite his fans, it seems unlikely for him to return to Foxborough. All we can do now is wait and see where Judon’s NFL journey takes him next.
