Max Verstappen Equates His Determination to Fernando Alonso…
Max Verstappen is celebrating his third victory of the season in Monza. He managed to secure a win at the Italian Grand Prix, securing a position just ahead of the McLaren duo.
Verstappen has now drawn a parallel between himself and the most senior F1 driver competing this season, Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, identifying a common trait that aligns them.
Just a few weeks ago, Verstappen expressed his struggles with the Red Bull car, which he found restricting. Alonso is similarly facing challenges due to limits of the Aston Martin vehicle. However, what brings these two drivers together is their fighting spirit despite their limitations.
During an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo at Monza, Verstappen expressed admiration for Alonso. Despite not having a championship-winning car, the latter never ceases to put up a fight. At 44, he remains highly motivated and passionate, even when the odds are stacked against him. Verstappen hopes to imbibe the same spirit and fight as Alonso.
Verstappen also iterated that competing against Alonso for a World Championship would be an incredible experience, denoting his tremendous respect for Alonso as a seasoned racer.
Verstappen’s Monza victory marked one of his most significant races yet. He managed to record the fastest lap in F1 history during the qualifying drive on Saturday, a day before he won the Italian Grand Prix. Reflecting on his achievement, Verstappen labeled this event as a spectacular weekend for his team.
As the next race, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku looms on the horizon from September 19-21, the expectation is high for Verstappen to keep the momentum going.
