MLB Superfan Defends Bad Bunny Amid ‘God Bless America’…
After Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny chose to remain seated during the “God Bless America” song at Yankee Stadium, there was a widespread backlash on social media, accusing him of disrespect. However, MLB superfan Laurence Leavy, also known as “Marlins Man,” defended Bad Bunny, dismissing the outrage as exaggerated and asserting that the rapper did nothing wrong.
Leavy, who was sitting next to Bad Bunny during Game 3 of the American League Division Series, argued that the situation had been blown out of proportion. He pointed out that not standing for the song is not against the law, and there are much bigger problems in the world. He also added that Bad Bunny is a nice guy who wasn’t trying to be difficult, but simply chose to exercise his right not to stand.
The controversy was further fueled when Bad Bunny’s team explained that his decision to remain seated was a response to criticism from former President Donald Trump and some of his supporters regarding his upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance. They objected to the fact that an American country singer wasn’t chosen for the show. In response, Bad Bunny’s team stated that they didn’t believe Trump understood that Puerto Rico is part of the United States.
While some have condemned Bad Bunny’s actions as unpatriotic, others view this as an expression of individual freedom. Despite the backlash, Bad Bunny has not publicly addressed the incident. Leavy noted Bunny’s awareness of the scrutiny and quoted the rapper as saying, “Half the world hates me, half the world likes me.”
