NASCAR Commentator Returns to NFL, Puzzling Michael Jordan | NFL News | Times of India

Rick Allen, former announcer for the NASCAR Cup Series, has landed a new job with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers which caught many by surprise, including NBA icon and co-owner of the 23XI Racing, Michael Jordan. Allen, who unexpectedly left NBC’s NASCAR Cup Series coverage during the 2024 season, shared news of his latest role on social media, posting a photo from the announcer’s booth at the Bank of America Stadium.

Though he’s excited for his new role, Allen admits feeling upset with his departure from NASCAR. During a recent appearance on the podcast ‘Dale Jr Download’, Allen revealed he was “crushed” upon discovering he was being replaced and was unhappy with how things were handled. He was instructed not to release a statement or discuss his replacement, making him “disappear” from the scene.

However, he regrets not speaking up, especially after an encounter with Michael Jordan. During a visit to Jordan’s golf course, Jordan had expressed confusion over Allen’s sudden absence from NASCAR. Realising the misunderstanding, Allen wishes he’d been more vocal about his exit being not his choice. Now, he’s looking forward to a fresh start with the Panthers.
