NBA Trade Buzz: Warriors Look to Add $22.5M Wizards’ Star for Championship Push | NBA News Times of India
The Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking to improve their squad for the upcoming season with the potential addition of Washington Wizards star, Malcolm Brogdon, who is valued at $22.5 million. This follows a mixed performance by the Warriors in the 2024-25 season, where they finished seventh in the Western Conference after a strong second half of the season. However, they were defeated 4-1 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals.
Offseason decisions have been delayed by ongoing contract negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga. The Warriors are reportedly wary of making significant moves until Kuminga’s contract situation is resolved. NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed in a live show that the Warriors have shown continued interest in Brogdon, the 2016-17 NBA Rookie of the Year.
Brogdon, with nine years of NBA experience, has played for several teams including the Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers. His most recent placement was with the Washington Wizards, where he played 24 games and posted impressive statistics despite restricted appearances.
Evaluating Brogdon’s contribution in the 2024-25 season shows him playing 24 games, with an average of 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. These solid stats, coupled with his experience and skill in both offense and defense, could make him a valuable asset for the Warriors.
If procured by the Warriors, Brogdon could function as a reliable force both off the bench and in the start, offering effective scoring, game-making and perimeter defense. His veteran presence could potentially mentor younger players while also complementing the Warriors’ core trio: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
The pursuit of Brogdon will likely depend on the resolution of Kuminga’s contract situation. Once that is settled, the team could be able to finalize their squad movements to enhance their chances in a competitive Western Conference.
