Nelson Signals Trouble, Slams Colts Instability Following Jones Move” | Times of India NFL News

Quenton Nelson, an All-Pro left guard for the Indianapolis Colts, voiced his frustration about the team’s frequent quarterback changes since he joined the team in 2018. On August 19, 2025, Nelson spoke candidly about the challenge the offensive line faces due to the revolving door at the quarterback position.

The Indianapolis Colts recently made Daniel Jones their new starting quarterback, the 12th quarterback Nelson has protected in his seven seasons with the team. In an interview with The Athletic after a practice session in Indianapolis, Indiana, Nelson admitted the continual quarterback turnover is both frustrating and disruptive to the team’s offensive line play.

Nelson expressed his feelings when asked about his experience playing with 11 different starting quarterbacks since Andrew Luck’s unexpected retirement in 2019. “I think I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t frustrating. You watch other teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and see the same quarterback year after year, and they build chemistry. That makes a big difference for the offensive line,” he shared on August 19, 2025.

Since joining the Colts in 2018 when Andrew Luck was still the starting quarterback, Nelson has protected a long list of quarterbacks, including Carson Wentz, Philip Rivers, Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew, Nick Foles, Sam Ehlinger, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Brian Hoyer, Anthony Richardson, and now Daniel Jones. Nelson conveyed the difficulty of maintaining consistency as a team when the player they are protecting is continually changing.

The team recently signed Daniel Jones to a one-year contract and will be starting in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Current coach Shane Steichen posited this move as a favorable opportunity for the team to secure victories. Anthony Richardson, who started 15 games in the past two seasons, expressed his understanding of the decision, stating he needs to continue honing his skills.

The team’s former center, Ryan Kelly, further referenced the quarterback changes as an issue in 2022 and 2024. With Daniel Jones only on a short-term contract, Nelson may potentially block for another new Colts quarterback in 2026.
