Oilers Enhance McDavid’s Top Six with $7.2M Mangiapane Deal | NHL News Times of India

The Edmonton Oilers have strengthened their team for the new NHL season by strategically signing Andrew Mangiapane. This move bolsters their offensive depth, particularly following the loss of several veteran forwards, including Corey Perry, Evander Kane, Jeff Skinner, Viktor Arvidsson, and Connor Brown.

Analysts believe maintaining a competitive line for star player Connor McDavid is pivotal, and the addition of Mangiapane, who signed a two-year, $7.2 million contract, suggests the Oilers are successfully addressing this issue. NHL analyst Travis Yost noted that Mangiapane has never finished a season with a negative on-ice goal differential at even strength, underlining his consistent performance.

Mangiapane has the adaptability to play on either the second or third line, offering scoring consistency, defensive reliability, and versatility. He is a versatile player, able to adapt to different linemates and support McDavid without disrupting the team’s balance.

Talking about his new role, Mangiapane stated, “I think last year was a little bit of a down year for me, but I think I could get right back to where I’ve been and what I can do.” He also expressed excitement at the opportunity to join the team and the potential of playing alongside its talented roster.

Previously drafted 166th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2015, Mangiapane has demonstrated consistent point production, recently earning 28 points over 81 games with the Washington Capitals. His arrival not only replenishes Edmonton’s offensive depth but also strengthens McDavid’s line, which could be instrumental in keeping Edmonton competitive in the Western Conference. His signing is considered a pivotal move as Edmonton prepares for the new season.
