Swiatek, seeded second in Montreal, joined other top seeds like Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Mirra Andreeva in exiting the tournament. Tauson moves on to face Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the quarter-finals.

Madison Keys, seeded sixth, staged a comeback to defeat Czech player Karolina Muchova 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, marking her third match win of the year despite facing match points.

Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka displayed a dominant performance, defeating Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 6-0 in just 49 minutes. This victory was her second-fastest ever and secured her a spot in her first 1000 or Grand Slam level quarter-final since Doha in 2024.

Swiatek, who was participating in her first tournament since clinching her sixth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, struggled on the Montreal court. After a challenging first set, she briefly gained momentum but was subdued by Tauson.

Tauson secured a quarter-final spot, successfully overcoming Swiatek by breaking through critical moments in both sets. She now faces a match against Keys, who displayed her resilience by saving match points before claiming victory.

Madison Keys shared her excitement, stating, “I’m really happy to get that win. After losing the first set and even being match point down, being able to figure it out makes it a great day.”

Naomi Osaka, who has encountered inconsistencies in her game post her maternity leave, mentioned that a recent coaching change has reinvigorated her. She parted ways with Patrick Mouratoglou and is currently working with Tomasz Wiktorowski. Reflecting on this change, Osaka said, “I enjoy his coaching style. He’s very direct and to the point, which is helpful for me.”

Osaka is set to compete against either fifth-seeded Amanda Anisimova or Ukraine’s Elina Svitlina in the semi-finals. Anisimova is making her first appearance since losing to Swiatek in the Wimbledon final, where nerves overcame her in a straight-set loss.
