Overcoming Paris Defeat: Lamboria’s Weight Change Paves Way…

Jaismine Lamboria, a boxer from Team India, achieved a significant gold medal victory in the 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. This success story is especially remarkable considering that just a year prior, she experienced the disappointment of an early exit at the Paris Olympics.

In the wake of her Paris Olympics setback, Jaismine demonstrated resilience by refining her training, enhancing her strategic discipline, and cultivating a sharper mental edge. Her transformation, outlined in a candid interview, set the stage for her defining performance in Liverpool and her future roadmap towards the LA Olympics.

Upon reflecting on her Paris Olympics experience, where she lost in the very first round, Jaismine acknowledged feeling distraught and mentally disturbed. However, the Indian Army was instrumental in boosting her motivation. She also found inspiration in a book titled ‘Goal is Gold’ by Vickrant Mahajan, and daily positivity classes that positively impacted her mindset during tournaments.

In the year since her exit from the Paris games, Jaismine undertook key changes to her training regimen at the Army Sports Institute in Pune. She worked on enhancing her strength, in-ring movement, punch power, and counterpunching ability with her Army coaches, Chhote Lal sir and Ehetaj sir. Personal coaches, Sandeep and Parminder Lamboria also lent their guidance and support throughout her journey.

Jaismine’s triumphant run at the World Boxing Championships came after overcoming former Olympic and World Championship medalists. An intriguing facet of her growth in recent years was her decision to shift from the 60kg to 57kg category, a move proposed by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and one that played a key role in her crowning moment in Liverpool.

Speaking on her future targets, Jaismine’s ambition is firmly set on clinching a medal at the Olympics, and she is enthusiastic about tuning her training regimen for the coveted achievement.
