Paige Bueckers Triumphs Over WNBA Legend to Achieve New Milestone | NBA News Times of India
Paige Bueckers has proven to be a standout player for the Dallas Wings, breaking a record previously held by WNBA Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper. In a game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Buecker scored double figures for the 29th consecutive time, pushing her to third place in all-time rookie scoring streaks. She’s only five games away from the league record held by Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson.
Despite a challenging season for the Dallas Wings, Bueckers has shown consistency, averaging 18.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. Her performance has brought comparisons to legends like Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi.
In her latest game, she moved ahead of Cynthia Cooper for consecutive double-digit scoring games by a rookie, marking her 29th straight game with 10+ points. Wilson holds the record with 33 games, and Candace Parker is second with 32 games.
Bueckers’ impressive display continued against the Sparks where she scored 16 points by halftime. Coach Chris Koclanes expressed confidence in her abilities, noting that she is redefining what a rookie can accomplish.
She’s been breaking milestones throughout her rookie season, including being the fastest rookie to reach 500 points and 100 assists, breaking the franchise’s rookie assist record and being voted an All-Star starter. Bueckers also ranks sixth in the league for scoring and ninth for assists, demonstrating her significant contribution to both offense and defense.
She now joins the ranks of WNBA greats such as Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker, Napheesa Collier, and Caitlin Clark, who all won Rookie of the Year before leaving their marks on the league.
