PCB’s Email Drama with ICC: A Detailed Look into Handshake…
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had demanded the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft, citing allegations of code of conduct violations during the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup. The PCB claimed issues arose when the captains did not shake hands. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stood firm, asserting that Pycroft followed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) instructions and didn’t violate any rules.
Amid this dispute, confusion persisted over Pakistan’s participation in the ongoing Asia Cup. Right before their match against UAE, the PCB made the late decision not to allow the team to the stadium. Consequently, this sparked dialogue between the PCB, ICC, and ACC.
Ultimately, the match was delayed by an hour, and even though the PCB threatened to withdraw from the tournament, the ICC did not concede to their demand to remove Pycroft. The ICC also addressed any misconduct concerns from the PCB and stated that Pycroft handled the situation correctly and there was no awkward situation on live television. Despite all the chatter, only the start time of the Pakistan-UAE contest changed, and Pycroft is set to continue refereeing for the remainder of the tournament.
