Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva tragically lost their lives in a road accident on July 3, shortly after Diogo’s marriage to Rute Cardoso. Portugal FA Chief’s Defense of Cristiano Ronaldo

Pedro Proenca, Portugal FA chief, defended Ronaldo, expressing, “It’s a huge injustice to imply that Cristiano was detached. From the start, he was deeply connected with both the national and Jota’s personal family.”

He further stated, “It’s unfair to criticize our captain. Cristiano Ronaldo was deeply affected and remained committed to this family despite his absence.”

Ronaldo’s sister, Katia, also defended his decision, sharing, “When my father passed, the media frenzy was overwhelming. The attention wasn’t even what it is today.”

“During such personal moments, the criticism faced is exhausting. Society’s focus on absences overshadows genuine family grief.”

She concluded, “Our society is deeply flawed, and it’s painful to see how discussions surrounding such events unfold. We must recognize the true battle against such negativity.”
