Ricky Hatton’s Fortune: The Wealth Accumulated by the Late British Boxing Champion

The British boxing icon, Ricky Hatton, has tragically died at the age of 46 at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester. He wasn’t just known for his boxing prowess but also for his considerable wealth. Throughout his boxing career, it’s said that Hatton earned approximately $65 million in fight purses and bonuses. After his death, his net worth was reported to be around $40 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Hatton was a beloved figure in the boxing world and came from a family with a sporting tradition. His father and grandfather were both footballers, but Hatton himself took a liking to boxing. Starting as an amateur, he won seven British titles, before deciding to turn professional at the age of 18.

In his professional career, Hatton gained widespread recognition for defeating Kostya Tszyu in 2005 to claim the IBF and Ring light-welterweight titles. This same year, he won The Ring magazine’s Fighter of the Year award after unifying titles by winning against Carlos Maussa. In 2006, Hatton also won the WBA welterweight title.

The highest earnings in Hatton’s career came from several notable fights against boxing’s biggest stars. His match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007 earned him $6 million just from pay-per-view shares. Later fights in 2008 and 2009 against Paulie Malignaggi and Manny Pacquiao respectively netted him $21 million and $20 million.

Despite retiring in 2012 following a defeat to Vyacheslav Senchenko, Hatton continued to be part of the boxing community by training and promoting fighters through his company, Hatton Promotions. He also had assets worth several million dollars including a Hyde mansion. Despite fluctuating fortunes with his business, wise investments and earnings secured him a lasting fortune of $40 million.
