Rodgers Slams Trump: NFL Star Fuels Debate Over Ex-President’s Covid Tactics
In a recent resurgence of NFL politics, Aaron Rodgers has criticized Donald Trump’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rodgers, a four-time MVP quarterback, has never been one to avoid controversy, often making contentious comments beyond the scope of football. His latest comments were made during a 2024 appearance on the Look Into It podcast.
Rodgers took particular aim at Trump’s pandemic leadership and his decision to keep Dr. Anthony Fauci in charge. The quarterback argued that Trump’s handling contradicted his own promise to “drain the swamp”. In Rodgers’ words, “Trump, OK, Trump’s an outsider, all the rhetoric, we’re going to drain a swamp and go after the corruption. And I don’t think a lot happened. What I fault him for is Tony Fauci… not only did Trump push the vaccine, Operation Warp Speed, or whatever the heck it was, but he let Fauci stay in charge and shut the country down.”
Adding to NFL’s political debates, President Trump has recently endorsed Mason Rudolph as the possible “guy” for the Steelers, praising his arm and charisma. His second term has also caused a divide in locker rooms across the country. The Philadelphia Eagles were split over attending the White House after their Super Bowl LIX victory, while Saquon Barkley faced online criticism for golfing with Trump.
Despite NFL politics continuing to cause a stir, both Rodgers and Trump’s involvement demonstrate the league’s position at the center of America’s ongoing cultural and political debates.
