Sandesh Jhingan Calls for Quick Resolution on ISL Issue

The start of the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season remains uncertain. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), a Reliance-owned company, are yet to finalize a new Master Rights Agreement (MRA). This situation is further complicated by AIFF’s ongoing Supreme Court proceedings.

FSDL proposes establishing a new company to manage ISL operations, involving participating clubs (60 percent), FSDL (26 percent), and AIFF (14 percent) as shareholders.

Jhingan’s Plea for Resolution

Speaking to The Economic Times, veteran Indian defender Sandesh Jhingan stressed the importance of resolving the issue promptly. “We seek a swift resolution. We are navigating new territory, and as a footballer, I await this resolution so we can resume playing. Our national team faces important games in October, and we need match fitness,” he said.

On the consequences of failing to reach an agreement, Jhingan warned, “It will be challenging. Football is our livelihood, and disruptions could affect us like any job loss would impact others. This uncertainty could hinder our national team, with critical AFC qualifiers approaching.”

The current MRA, signed in 2010, expires this year. Under this agreement, FSDL pays AIFF ₹50 crore annually for rights to broadcast, commercialize, and manage Indian football, including the national team.
