Shannon Sharpe’s Legal Battle Sees Shift Over $20m Usher Concert Lawsuit | NFL News Times of India
Shannon Sharpe, a retired NFL star and podcast host, had his $20 million lawsuit dismissed by a Chicago federal court. The lawsuit was filed by Jimalita Tillman, a cultural center director, after false claims made by Sharpe and his co-host Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson that she was married, following a flirty on-stage moment with singer Usher at a concert.
The controversy started in April 2025, during an Usher concert in London. Tillman, who was in the front row, received a cherry from Usher and shared a flirty look with him. On their podcast, Sharpe and Johnson speculated that Tillman was married or divorced due to that incident, despite Tillman claiming she was single and never been married. This rumor gained traction on social media platforms, causing Tillman to believe it negatively affected her work and her reputation in homeschooling advocacy. However, she did not receive any response when she attempted to contact Sharpe and Johnson for clarification.
In response, Tillman filed a lawsuit in Cook County court in Chicago on April 24, 2025, demanding $20 million in damages. The case was then moved to federal court. On August 7, 2025, the judge closed the case with no money awarded, and no party was required to pay for the legal expenses. Tillman later expressed her satisfaction with the results and the ability to move past the issue without a lengthy court trial. The case now is officially closed, and neither party is pursuing further legal actions.
