Shreyas Iyer’s Test Return Dimmed by Early Dismissal Against…

Shreyas Iyer’s performance in recent times has been cause for concern. The Indian A captain only managed to score eight runs before being dismissed by Corey Rocchiccioli on the third day of the first unofficial Test match against Australia A in Lucknow. Iyer returned to the cricket pitch after more than three months, but unfortunately, he was trapped LBW in the 62nd over after just 13 balls.

Iyer entered the game during the 59th over, following Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal at 73 runs. He managed to hit one boundary before his short-lived appearance ended.

His recent form is a source of worry, with scores of 25 and 12 in the Duleep Trophy. His last significant performance was in June 2025 when he scored an unbeaten 87 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 2. Iyer last played a Test match against England in February 2024, and his most recent international game was the Champions Trophy final in March.

Australia A set a solid first inning score of 532/6, built on centuries by Sam Konstas and Josh Philippe, with Philippe batting undefeated at 123. India A started off strong, with opening batsmen Abhimanyu Easwaran and Narayan Jagadeesan adding 88 runs until Liam Scott dismissed Easwaran.

The second-wicket partnership between Jagadeesan and Sudharsan was 49 until Xavier Bartlett dismissed Jagadeesan. Devdutt Padikkal and Sudharsan then contributed 76 for the third-wicket until Cooper Connolly ended Sudharsan’s innings at 73.

As the match continues, Iyer is hopeful of making a comeback in the second innings if India A bats again. This game is particularly critical for his potential return to the India Test squad, which will compete in the upcoming series against West Indies, beginning on October 2 in Ahmedabad.
